So, you have accepted the fact that you are a sinner. You have talked to God, confessed your sins to Him and have asked Him for forgiveness. But you don’t feel saved? How can you know for sure? 1 John 5:11-15 “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
14 ¶ And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”
Pay special attention to Verse 13, it is the key to this passage. “…that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life…”. How do you know a thing is so? Well, how do you know when you’re in love? You might say: “I just know!” Or, you might list examples that prove that fact.
One example is a deep desire to know God better. To have a closer relationship with Him. Another is that you want to share your experience with others. These things are evidences of the fact that you are indeed saved.
